We are very thrilled to announce that registration for LUNGevity’s annual Breathe Deep DC 5k Walk is officially open. This year, we hit an important milestone – it’s our five-year anniversary since we first participated in 2015!

Debby Burns is our Team Captain, and our team name is Open Technology Group: United for a Cure. Please select this team name when you register.

All registration fees and donations will go toward helping OTG meet its goal of raising $20,000 for life saving lung cancer research. We have kicked off the drive with a $5,000 donation, and now it’s your turn. At OTG we are known for exceeding expectations, and last year, the team did just that – by raising twice our goal! Let’s come together once again to make a positive impact in the fight against lung cancer.

Please invite friends, family, and coworkers to participate in this fun and meaningful walk around the National Mall. You can run, walk, bike, rollerblade — and even pets are invited! The course is both wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, so all can join in and share a memorable time.

To receive event updates, cancer research news, and to follow Debby’s journey as she prepares to lead the OTG team in the walk, be sure to ‘Like’ Debby’s Facebook page.

We very much look forward to walking with you on Sunday, November 3rd, where we will honor OTG founder Leon Maxwell Burns Jr.’s life and vision, as well as the countless other individuals whose lives have been touched by lung cancer.

Open Technology Group Joins LUNGevity’s 2016 Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk to End Lung Cancer

Leon Maxwell Burns, Jr. founded Open Technology Group in 1991, serving as the President and CEO until he lost his battle to lung cancer in 2011. He was an avid supporter of lung cancer research and spent the years following his diagnosis serving as spokesperson for the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center. There, he educated groups and individuals about this terrible disease that affects people of every race, gender, and age.

OTG is proud to continue supporting lung cancer research by partnering with LUNGevity, the nation’s largest lung cancer organization. OTG will sponsor and take part in LUNGevity’s Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk to End Lung Cancer on Sunday, November 6, 2016. LUNGevity is firmly committed to making an immediate impact on increasing the quality-of-life and survivorship of people with lung cancer by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments. LUNGevity also provides community, support, and education for all those affected by the disease.

Leon’s wife, Debby Burns, is continuing Leon’s legacy of lung cancer advocacy as OTG’s Breathe Deep DC Team Leader. Open Technology Group has already donated $5,000, and all registration fees and donations will help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 for life saving lung cancer research. Together, we can carry on this charge in Leon’s honor, as well as support others who have been touched by this terrible disease.

Open Technology Group Doubles Fundraising Goal for Lung Cancer Research

Team OTG: United for a Cure

This year, Open Technology Group officially sponsored LUNGevity’s annual Breathe Deep DC 5K Walk for the first time on Sunday, November 1st. We had a great time together on the National Mall, and enjoyed some spots of sunshine throughout the morning.

One of our organization’s core values is to surpass expectations, and Team Open Technology Group: United for a Cure clearly demonstrated this value on Sunday. Our initial goal was to raise $10,000 in registration fees and donations. Our team quickly exceeded that goal, and we pushed our benchmark to new heights several times in order to meet the generosity of our friends, family members, and coworkers.

In the end, our team raised an astounding $20,000! 100% of these funds will be invested in cutting edge lung cancer research, bringing us closer to curing America’s leading cause of cancer death. We at OTG have proven that we can work together to make a difference, and this Sunday was our first of many wonderful Breathe Deep DC events.

Thank you to everyone who spread the word, donated, and participated. We look forward to uniting for a cure again next year!
